Clients - Single Shop

Challenge
A shopping portal that would help users find, compare and purchase products from multiple merchants through a streamlined buying process and single checkout. The portal needed a Brand Identity that would convey a fun, easy, trustworthy, and friendly feeling with a logo that would visually represents SingleShop.com as a place for online shopping. The technology and site identity needed to be developed and in production for the 1999 holiday season, four months after the initial stages of design and technical architecture began.

Solution
A scalable, secure and extensible eCommerce site capable of handling millions of transactions per day with a patent-pending single order search engine that lets consumers search, compare and purchase multiple items using a single cart and universal check-out from top merchants, all on one site with a united user interface.

WebCritical worked with SingleShop from architecture design to deployment. The product was developed on an Oracle8i platform running under Solaris using BEA WebLogic software, a complete Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) solution. The entire application was built using J2EE-compliant Java and features state of the art architecture built upon Java, BEA WebLogic, BEA JumpStart and Oracle DBMS technologies.

Report applications were created to provide straightforward data, such as transactions by vendor/item, and to assist the SingleShop staff in product marketing, customer service, and content generation to track consumer buying patterns.

With the components put into place by WebCritical and their systems integration partner, BEA, the site is able to handle the complexities of eCommerce including:

  • State and session management
  • Security issues including registration, login, address and email validations
  • Credit card operations

In addition to the technology architecture and implementation, WebCritical’s Creative Solutions group:

  • Designed the logo and brand identity
  • Created a simple, effective user interface that required no training

Results
SingleShop’s partnership with WebCritical Technologies, Inc. enabled them to meet their holiday season deadline with a successful product launch. The impressive design and technology of the site assisted SingleShop in securing $12 million in funding in their second round of funding. The site has been recognized as a leader in concept and design by numerous media organization including: dbusiness.com, Oracle, dowjones.com, PCWeek, Red Herring and USA Today.
